KAKawal AroraRelationship & Leadership Coach

The short story

I work on the one thing that decides almost everything: how you relate.

Kawal Arora is an ICF Certified Coach and Mars-Venus Relationship Coach based in Hyderabad, working with couples, families, leaders and organisations globally — India, South-East Asia, Europe, USA & Australia.

In two paragraphs

Personal relationships

Most of my work happens between two people who love each other and cannot hear each other. Couples who have been having the same argument in a different costume for years. Parents and a teenager who has gone quiet behind a closed door. A husband and wife who are excellent housemates and barely partners. In-laws, separation, an estrangement everyone has stopped mentioning. As a Mars-Venus Relationship Coach trained in Dr John Gray’s framework, I work with the fact that men and women frequently run different instruction manuals — and that the difference becomes workable the moment it is named out loud.

Professional relationships

The other half of my week looks completely different and turns out to be the same work. A first-time CXO whose leadership team has quietly stopped telling him the truth. Two senior people in an unresolved conflict that forty others are working around. A workplace with five generations in it who read the same message four different ways. Organisations call this engagement, retention or culture. Underneath every one of those numbers is a relationship that is either working or is not. Very few coaches in India practise across both the living room and the boardroom. That is the whole point of this practice.

The long story

Nobody arrives at relationship work by accident.

I am a relationship and executive coach who loves to contribute to people’s growth stories. That sentence sounds simple. It took me two decades, and one uncomfortable realisation, to earn it.

The realisation was this. My career gave me everything a CV wants — promotions, scale, teams, results. Somewhere in my forties I noticed that I was extremely good at managing outcomes and quietly terrible at managing relationships. I was so effective at work that I had become almost useless at home. The version of me my family got in the evening was whatever the day had left over, and most days it left very little.

What changed it was not a book. It was people — mentors and coaches who asked me questions I had been carefully avoiding. They did not give me answers. They made it impossible for me to keep not looking. The first relationship that had to change was the one I had with myself; everything else followed from there. That experience is the whole reason this practice exists.

A safe, non-judgemental space where you can say the true thing out loud — and then do something about it.

So I trained. Properly. ICF certification. Mars-Venus Relationship Coaching under Dr John Gray, whose work on how men and women differ in thinking, communication and stress response sits underneath a great deal of what I do with couples. A licence in emotional intelligence coaching, NLP, and an organisation development coaching credential — because I wanted to work with individuals and with the systems they sit inside, and those need different instruments.

I have since written Global Gender Intelligence: The Science of Success in Business, Love and Life with Dr John Gray and his certified Mars Venus Coaches — bringing the framework into an Indian context, and into the workplace as well as the home.

Today my week might hold a couple deciding whether to stay married, a father and his adult son in the same room for the first time in two years, a first-time CXO who has stopped sleeping, and a leadership team whose numbers are fine and whose trust is not. Different rooms. Same underlying work.

What I believe

  • Every relationship is a system, not a set of individuals. Change one part of it honestly and the whole thing moves.
  • Everybody makes the best choice available to them at the time they make it. Judgement closes the door that curiosity opens.
  • You are not broken and I am not fixing you. Coaching is not therapy and I will say so clearly when therapy is what you need.
  • Insight without practice is entertainment. If nothing changes in your week, nothing changed.
  • The room is confidential. Fully, including in corporate engagements where I report themes, never names.
  • Empathy starts with yourself. People who are cruel to themselves rarely have much left over for anyone else.

Who I work with

Couples and individuals navigating marriage, separation, breakup, in-laws, parenting and family estrangement. Men and women who simply need a space to be heard without being judged or fixed. Senior leaders, founders and newly-promoted executives. HR and L&D teams who need capability built rather than a speaker booked. And organisations that have realised their retention problem is a relationship problem.

Sessions run face to face in Hyderabad, or online over Google Meet, Zoom or WhatsApp — which is how most of my international clients work with me.

Content pillars

Nine subjects I keep returning to.

Everything I write, record and teach sits inside these. If a topic does not strengthen one of them, I leave it to somebody else.

01

Relationships

What actually holds two people together once the early chemistry stops doing the work for you.

02

Marriage & Family

Long-term commitment, in-laws, separation, and the family stories nobody wrote down but everybody follows.

03

Emotional Intelligence

Noticing what you feel, early enough that it is still information rather than a reaction.

04

Leadership

Authority is given. Influence is earned in a hundred small relational moments.

05

Workplace Relationships

The manager, the peer, the person you avoid in the corridor. Where most careers are decided.

06

Parenting

Raising people who will one day disagree with you and still want to be in the room.

07

Communication

Not speaking better. Being understood accurately, especially when it is inconvenient.

08

Human Behaviour

Why we do the thing we swore we would not do again.

09

Workforce Intelligence

Five generations in one workplace, and the awareness it takes for them to work well together.
