Here comes the end of another year, and like every year we will see lots of messages regarding retrospecting the year went by and making goals for the new year.

Very few stick to their goals set at the end of a year because they don’t originate from our own inner motivation but they are influenced by outside trends happening around us such as starting a new business, making a insta-savy physique, reading X-number of books, doing international trips, solo trips etc. Some people even search for ideas on google for their new year goals/resolutions. No wonder, many don’t even remember their goals after a few weeks.

So does it mean setting goals is a useless exercise? Shouldn’t we aim to achieve something in the new year?

The answer is – Yes, we must set goals for ourselves, we should aim for something. But DON’T do it as YEAR END ACTIVITY. Though you can set goals anytime but in case you want to follow new year timeline here is what you can do-

1. Enjoy your last days of the current year with friends and family. No rush to set any goal or resolutions
2. Step into new year rejuvenated and refreshed
3. Spend sometime in the first week of the new year and make just 1 or 2 goals (1 goal works best), small enough to be accomplished in next 2-3 months. If you are targeting something big in the longer duration, your first target can be sub-goal of that bigger goal
4. Make an accountability partner – inform about your goal to 1 closed person who will keep you accountable towards that goal. He/she can be your spouse, kids or your closed friend. They will keep you on track by regularly reminding about your goal.
5. In the following week, take the first step towards that goal
6. With accountability partner in and first step taken, rest of the steps will follow with inner motivation
7. Once the first goal accomplished/on track in 2-3 months, set another goal for next 2-3 months.

So, forget about resolutions now and enjoy the year end with loved ones. Be ready to Welcome the New Year with excitement, fun & energy!!

Happy New Year!!
